Your Motorcycle Licence and Savings on Insurance Cover
Saving money on your motorbike insurance and driving safely begins with your motorbike licence. Young or new riders obviously have to complete their compulsory basic training of CBT. However, no matter how anxious you are to get out onto the roadways and begin testing your skills, a bit more training can do you a world of good.
In the first place, the more training you have had on the skills necessary to ride your motorbike, the more safely you are capable of driving. Mind you, we know that not everyone is going to follow the rules, and just because there are rules does not mean that everyone is going to drive safely. However, the better or more extensive your training has been, the lower your insurance rates will be.
So, once you have finished your CBT, continue with a Driving Standards Agency (DSA) approved instructor, and improve your knowledge and skills. If you pass the test and acquire a full licence, then you can expect to see a reduction of some sort in your insurance cover premium.
Once you reach 21, you can take the advance motorcycle test if you have a full licence. Organisations such as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAN) offer these. If you take and pass one of the tests offered by these two groups or a similar test, it is possible that you will see even more savings on your insurance cover premium.
In particular, the advanced test offered by the Institute of Advanced Motoring examines the skill of the rider in several different scenarios as well as riding at a high rate of speed. The scenarios might take place on country lanes, in city traffic, or on the motorways. At any rate, you should become a rider with better skills who might be able to access savings on his insurance.
